This must end! There is VERY good advertising, very effective and which accompanies the user in their navigation. Instead of trying to drown them with intrusive formats. So, in this article, we are going to talk about intrusive advertising and why it should be avoided .
Intrusive advertising in online media in Spain
I decided to try it out. I started browsing the websites of major Special Database publications , from
Lectures magazine, the sports daily
Marca and the Telecinco website. In all of them, I found some kind of intrusive advertising , which consists of trying to catch the consumer. What is often achieved is the opposite effect to the desired one: the user gets tired and feels impacted by communications that he has not requested. For this reason he ends up installing an ad blocker .
Advertising in Marca and El Mundo
The newspapers Marca and El Mundo have been the lightest cases .
In the case of the sports publication, there is an interstitial (accompanied by fixed side banners) that appears DB to File when you access the article. It is true that it covers all visibility of the content and that clearly makes it an example of an intrusive practice, but it disappears after a few seconds (perhaps two or three) and becomes a fixed format on the side.
Good digital advertising is not intrusive
As for El Mundo, a short Amazon Prime spot appears (suddenly) in the middle of the article’s text BT Leads plays automatically. If you hover over it, you’ll start hearing the audio from the video and you might get a good scare (as I did).
Good digital advertising is not intrusive
If you look at the bottom right corner, you will see her and her “big hair” in miniature, as the spot plays automatically. It is difficult for you to escape seeing or hearing the ad. But this happens regularly!
New Call-to-action
Every time you enter a new article in the magazine, you come across a miniature spot again, either about Echevarría’s mane or about the life expectancy of small dogs.
Advertising in Very Interesting
At Muy Interesante magazine we have gone up a level. While reading an article about the most terrifying predators of prehistory, you start to hear Paula Echevarría and her advice on how to have “Pantene hair”.
